Sounds like you need a detector, bud. Oh wait, you're in Canada aren't you? Scratch that.
I recently installed the best anti-speed-trap device ever in my car. A good old-fashioned CB radio. It's not much good around town, just sort of sits there. But once you hit an Interstate, things get interesting. Channel 19 (the trucker's channel) is full of interesting and entertaining chatter, not to mention detailed info on the location and orientation of every patrol car for a hundred miles in either direction, right down to the mile marker!
As soon as I get on the highway, I just call out to a semi going the other way in my best Southern drawl (they won't talk to you unless they think you're a trucker, too.) I ask what the driver has seen behind him. Depending on how long he's been on the road, you can get a good picture of the situation ahead of you. I usually try to get an update a couple times an hour when on a road trip.
Combine the CB with a good radar detector for around town and defend against any mobile patrol cars you might not have heard about, and also a basic knowledge of the tactics of avoiding tickets, and it's as safe as a driver can be.
I was able to make a run from Raleigh, NC to Buffalo, NY last year in 10 hours and 15 minutes. :smoker2: That's an average of 73 mph, figuring in fuel/food/piss stops. Spent most of the trip over 80 on the highway, with occasional spurts above 90 depending on what traffic was doing.

yeah, i am from canada. the radar here doesn't really work since all the cops here use lazer now and the detectors are not really miracle workers when it comes to lazer. i still haven't fought the ticket yet, but will probably do it this week cuz it is due next week. i swear the cops are out to get me LOL. but hey, what can you do. they have to meet their quota some how

All the cops in Calgary use laser? I've had my detector for seven years (yes it's being replaced soon) and I've gotten hit by laser maybe 3 times, twice in western New York state (Buffalo area) and once on I-40 in North Carolina. Seems like laser speed guns are a lot more numerous up there.

most cops do here in calgary. i know everytime i've been pulled over ( which is way to many!!), they tell me i was clocked on lazer. also, they have that checked off on the ticket. it kinda bites

That certainly does suck. I'm hoping it doesn't happen in the States. I think the laser guns are made by different companies than the radar guns, which is good because the radar manufacturers are in bed with the insurance companies who buy most of the speed guns for the police departments so they can hand out more tickets, thus higher insurance rates. (I love America!)

About the only things I can think of to reduce your susceptibility to laser are:
A) Do not run a front license plate. That is their ideal target. If you live in a fascist state or province which requires these stupid things, do what I did in New York: Scratch, bend, run over and generally beat up the plate, then throw it under the seat and tell every cop who asks that it just fell off yesterday. It worked for me for 4 years.

B)Drive a dark-colored car with a curvy front end. Hidden headlights help too. It can cause the laser to take a couple extra seconds to get a fix on you and if you have a detector you might have a fighting chance.

It's a long shot, but it might help.
