2006 cr-v strange noise

I have a 2006 cr-v (automatic) that makes a scratching noise right before it shifts into 2nd gear. I've owned the cr-v since January, just noticed the noise 2 weeks ago. Only happens when car is cold. Service mechanic said that it's a normal sound made by the Anti-lock brake system (ABS) performing a "self-check". Taken it in twice, rode with mechanic the 2nd time to make sure we were hearing the same noise. My next step is to drive other CR-Vs on the lot to see if they make the same noise...since the mechanic says "they all do it." Anyone ever heard of this?
