You could find yourself a nice SL for that price. If I could just reccomend two things it would be that you get the DOHC (SL or even the base from years 91-96) and get a 5 speed. Good luck with the purchase.

i agree. look for a base or SL, and get a 5spd so you get the practice you need if you ever do wanna move up the ladder.
just remember man...i dont know the stats off the top of my head, but the vast majority of people WILL total their first car in an accident. You might wanna think about something less costly and less rare as a starter (prelude, old 'stang, eclipse, etc), and save some money to upgrade when your ready.
As for common problems to watch for when shopping, read the FAQ section. Everything is in there. Definitely worth the time to read through it. If you still have questions after you read that or have questions about a car your looking at, feel free to ask. Thats y we're here bro.
GL shopping and welcome to AF.

Hey know that you are looking for a 5 speed but i am selling a 93' SL black with 53,XXX miles but its automatic. Some perks are that it has already been upgraded pretty well, so you wont have to worry to much about that. What i have on it includes: DN Performance catback exhaust, Bomz short ram intake, Chip, 5% limo tint in the back window and 35% on the front two, full pioneer speakers with aftermarket pioneer head unit, red front mesh grill, brand new differential and brand new transmission (about 1500 miles on both).
I am asking around $8000 right now but you have to factor in all the aftermarket upgrades with the price.
You can email me at [email protected] or call my cell 630-388-8159 if you have questions or want pictures.

Im sorry but you wont get 8000 for a 93 SL, espeically a ATX. Upgrades dont really add to the value, and in reality you dont have many upgrades. I could get a nice 93 TT for 8k. Just letting you know not to get your hopes up... Also this chip you have. Let me guess, ebay? Its junk. There are no chips for the 3s.

To the original poster, read the FAQ, seriously, I know it's asking alot, but read it. Also read the thread about considering a 'vr4 for your first car' take it all literally, because as said above, odds are you will total your first car.
Welcome to AF.

yeah even the non turboed 3kgt and stealths are fast and if u don't know how to shift already u will for sure get in to some fender benders. and watch out for that reverse gear it can be tricky going in reverse in a manual car when ur not used to it.

I've never once had an issue getting into reverse on any manual I have owned... other than when the mouting bracket on my Talon was loose.

haha i didn't mean getting in to reverse my bad i meant driving in it becuase ur usally not going fast enough to let go of the clutch and just press in the gas and that thats why it can be tricky when ur not used to stick. at least it was for me hahaa
