antilock issues 94 regal

Got a 94 regal 3800 V-6 and as long as I had this car apon startup I would hear series of 4 fast clicking noises coming from the antilock pump, which of course is normal.......

in the last few weeks instead of making these noises upon startup it would make them while backing out of the driveway or driving away.........then this progressed to making only one click upon start up (light would go off) then while backing up or driving away I would hear ONE more click and the antilock light would come on and stay on.....

I could for a while shut the car off then restart it and then I would get either the series of clicks upon starting or the series of clicks while driving away and the light would remain off......

now I am getting the one click after starting (light goes out) and then the one click while the car just starts to move and then the light stays on........brakes still feel fine, I should mention that the rotors and pads need to be replaced....

Could this be a sticky relay, a sensor gone bad or is the pump failing....how can I diagnose the problem to be sure...

Get it scanned on an abs function scanner for codes and start there, post back code.

Problem solved.....after this thing giving me hell for over a week, I noticed that my volt gauge was acting wierd....it was all over the place and real low upon putting a load on it....I installed a new alternator last year so I thought it was just a defective one.....anyway, I returned it (lifetime warranty) and installed the new one......same thing was happening

I was checking all the connections when I noticed that the ground wire off the positive cable was extremely hot....I disconnected the battery then disconnected the ground wire and it really didnt look corroded but I cleaned it anyway with sandpaper and a wire brush....hooked everything back up and problem was solved.............NO MORE brake problems and volt gauge now reads 14 ...even with a load on it....

A simple fix that that was causing all these problems....

Good work, but I assume you do not mean the gd wire off the positive cable, just clarify that for the final resolution.

Yes it was the ground wire that comes off the positive battery cable ...it leads to a relay and fuse box on the fender right next to the battery.

Thats where the problem was....cleaned it and it's all good now!
