I have a 97 Grand am automatic and the ignition cylinder will not turn. The cylinder would turn back and fouth without the key. I then found a blown fuse for the ignition under the hood and after I changed the fuse the cylinder would not turn at all but will only ding when pushed in. I have pushed the safty over ride on the shifter and put the car in nutral but the cylinder still will not turn. :banghead: help!

Welcome to AF.
You'll need to replace the lock cylinder to fix this.

Ok, so I have the steering wheel off and the both multi switches off but I still can't get the cylinder out. Do I have to drill out the center of the cylinder and take it out piece by piece?

I believe there is a "C" clip that needs to be removed from behind the steering wheel ... then you need the key inserted to turn out the lock cylinder ... if my memory serves me correctly. A haynes manual should tell you step by step ... check the help section on here, or visit an autozone to buy a book, or look at one.

there should be a hole thats right above the cylinder under the steering wheel. You willl need a paper clip or stiff wire to push in the release pin. Then turn the key and it should all pull right out.
Hope that helps.
