Completed: Monogram Ferrari 308GTB
Eric Cole
05-13-2007, 05:14 PM
Just finished this one up today. Monogram's 308GTB (copyright 1980). Painted with Tamiya Mica Silver and Tamiya Clear, then polished. Interior is painted with Krylon Cherry Red then over coated with Testors Flat clear. Added decals from aftermarket decal set and metal emblems from Crazy Modeller (thanks to my friend, Wayne :grinyes: ) Tires are from American Satco. I stripped the chrome from the wheels and repainted them with dull aluminun, and then used some SNJ Polishing Powder. The exhaust tips were replaced with some polished aluminum tubing.
Edit: forgot to mention this was for the 60th Anniversary Build.
Thanks for looking:

Very nice and clean build. I normally don't like silver, but it sure look good on this one. Great idea to strip the wheels and paint them alu. The emblems add to the god overall look. Congrats and thumbs up!
Edit: Just noticed that the mirror is not adjusted right. And what is the reflection on the roof???

Thanks everyone.
voyageur, the mirror is kind of tricky. in some views (in person) it looks correct and other views don't. It didn't matter where I placed it it still looked wrong.
The reflection just happens to be a Hotwheels car package I have hanging on my wall just above my work area. I alway forget to move it when I take pics.

Wow, man, this is a very very impressive looking model. I have the revell rerelease and it's very very basic and needs a bit of work to look convincing. Luckily you did a lot of work on it! So it doesn't only look convincing, but also desirable

Thanks..
You might be able to find one on ebay from time to time. I picked this one up from a vendor at a model show... took it right out of Zoom-Zoom's (Bob Downie's) hands... sort of :uhoh::evillol:
But he was okay with it as long as I promised to build it. :grinyes:

seeing as no one's mentioned it; this is the same kit that's been recently re-boxed and sold by revell (http://www.revell.de/en/products/model_kits/model_kits/cars/?id=207&KOKANR=01&KOSCHL=04&KGSCHL=02&L=1&page=1&sort=0&nc=1&searchactive=&q=&SWO=&ARMAS4=&PHPSESSID=fa627fbc6321ca9b104c6bc835c024bd&KZSLPG=0401&offset=1&cmd=show&ARARTN=07316&sp=1).
the recent re-issue of the hasegawa 328 now means you can bash the two together for a full detail 308 that will be miles better than the old 70's revell 308 gtb/gts/magnum kits *hint hint*
edit: added the link to the item.

Best $5 you ever spent on a model
Even better since this model is current from Revell AG in the US for $22.00. This buildup helps dispel some of the disrespect some will give a simple 43 piece model. It's definitely the best proportioned 308 made anywhere. Would be cool if Fujimi took a stab at the 308...

You don't see this kit built very often, but it is the most correct shape out of all 308's ever made in plastic. Great job on it!
