i remember a while ago my uncle mentioned something to me about a company he once found that had an aftermarket head to convert a chevy small block to DOHC. he didnt remember anything else about the name or anything.

if anybody has any info on this i would like to find out how it is done and how it works.

thanks

yah....it was rediculously expensive. Something like $20K for the setup. Most race regulations wouldn't allow it, and that makes it hard to have a large customer base. I doubt its still availible.

Yeah, Moser is what you might be thinking of.
They were 4 valves per cylinder, pent-roof. Gilmer belt driven off the crank. Found a picture of an engine on a stand fitted with the heads and 4 Webers. Pretty weird looking.
EDIT-Just found another pic showing the business end with what apperars to be a very flat combustion chamber and the usual central plug. It has 6 hold down stud holes for each cylinder, which is weird too.

getting an LT5 is a better option. 350ci small-block from a ZR-1 corvette. DOCH, 4 valves per cylinder.

yeah, but those are regularly selling for around 10,000... for the engine.
who thinks that GM should bring it back again?
am i alone here?

still cheaper than a $20,000 conversion.

i think it should be brought back, or a new small-block quad-cam made for the next camaro and corvette.

until then, we've got the 4.4 and 4.6 Northstar.

its all about performance vs cost. Not saying that you can do more with a pushrod motor, but cost wise, its a hell of a lot cheaper in all aspects.

Just a question of how much power you want....but you can make an unbelievable amount with the right combination either way

yeah. single cam V8s aren't "worse" than quad cam ones, they benefit in reliability in less parts. the advantage of a quad cam V8 is refinement, extra-fine tuning etc..

and the ease of variable valve timing and independant cam timing.
it would also allow for tighter clearances and less weight per cam.

besides... it sounds amazing

I heard Yamaha had a quad cam setup. But it's only something I heard.

Just buy a Lexus V8. Problem solved.

yeah, but getting that to work in my car would be hell

Refinement? LOL!
Nothing to do with more valve area and periphery for higher revs and HP then?

well that too, but that all leads to more refinement in the end
