Should I take a battery cable off?

I`m going to have to weld an old socket to the top brake calipter bolt.I rounded it off.When I weld the socket on should I remove one of the battery cables ? Why did Ford make the bolts so dam hard to get off.The bottom bolt is a star female and the top is a male star.

Remove the neg cable first and then the positive to avoid sparks. Do not let the positive cable contact any metal while you are welding.

Everything went good,I welded a socket on the bolt and it broke loose and I changed the bearing.Then reprogrammed the radio.
