well i was going to swap a motor into my car but decided to be different and try to break into the 13s with my 91 DX motor :) my brother in law (a race mechanic) stated some cool lil ideas that im going to do...first off we took the head off and did a port and polish on it. later this week we are putting a aftermarket header on the car and porting the intake manifold on it...after that we are going to do somthing i dont think i have ever seen done to a 4G hatch..im taking my intake and turning it into carbed with a TB spacer (to add hp..if you guys know what a TB spacer does..it allows air to mix with the fuel better and gives more HP) we will be making our own pistons (with a friend of his who has been making pistons for v-8s for the last 18yrs). also im trying to get a aftermarket cam for it but having trouble finding one so i might have to resort to getting one custom made...from there we are going 3 or 3.5 inch. exhaust with a high flow cat and a Greddy muffler. the hood will be modified (because of the carb and aircleaner) so there will be a carb sticking out of my hood a lil bit and a ram are scoupe put on tho hood (kinda like the older Z's had). from there we will do some nifty little mods to have fun with like a geo metro injector into my muffler and run it to make a good sized flame thrower (just so i can have fun at the track when i run lol i think it would be sweet to see a civic throwin 8 ft flames while running a 13 sec. pass.) i have no PS or AC so dont have to worry about taking those off to free up HP...my only worry so far is the ECU (how will it compensate for the swap from PGM FI to CARB.) i just put in a performance clutch so that is out of the way...so i will keep all posted on my new plans and hopfully some pics as well...HEY what can i say im like the dodge commercial...DIFFERENT :smoker2: please let me know what you think of this idea im going with..

the carbs idea is cool. I'd like to see that custom because i've always wanted to put dual carbs or something on a 4th gen.

There are options besides bought bolt-ons!:thinkerg:

I like your ideas and it is cool that you are doing something different. One suggestion...your exhaust choice seems a little large. I would go with either 2.5 or 3 at the most. Anything bigger and you are going to be losing power since you are working with a motor with such a small displacement.

I don't want to burst your bubble but all that stuff has been done. I know that weber makes a twin carb setup. You can get a decent one here in US but you can get an awesome one in Japan. Pretty neat and it gives you nice power but kills the gas mileage. As far as the flame thrower, i did that to my friends CRX, fun. For exhuast you will not need anything more than 2.5" for all motor. You'll have to upgrade your fuel system to accomdate the more air flow so think about that a little, i think that the stock system will do okay for a bit but in the long run. If you want to hit a 13 than your goin to have to upgrade your drive train, get at a LSD, like a stage 3 clutch, and good sized axels to take to beating. I think that Crane makes a cam but not too sure, but i know that their out there. I think in the long run this will cost you more than an average motor swap and it won't be very easy to drive around town. Also grab a pair of slicks.Have fun.

Yeah - hate to say it, but a lot of countries got the twin-carb (Keihin)1500 SOHC 16 valve engine which was good for 100bhp.

Mugen went one step further by setting up the 12 valve 3rd gen Civics and 4th Gen SOHC Civics with twin DCOE Webbers, mugen cam, headers etc. Power was 150bhp in mild tune with bumped compression. Over here, a few people run these motors on the track, but bolted into the 1st Gen Civics.

600 kilos of first gen plus 150bhp+ = an awesome combination :)

i also realize this has been done, but mostly in foriegn countries, have you really seen one in the US? and even if you have, how many? he is gonna be one in a dozen, maybe less......

We ran dual webber carbs on a shop car here two years ago. I almost wanted that setup. :)

As for cams, you really have not looked into that at all, if you say there are no cams available. There are so many, it's hard to choose wich one to go with.

Dude that set up would be sweet, we had a customer got thier own motor for us to replace thier blown one. Well for whatever reason they got one from japan and it was a z6/y8 (dont remember which) but it had dual carbs on it, we swapped the injected manifold on to it and oput it in that way. not sure if we have the carb manifold still or not...it looked prettysweet....post some pics when you can...

Have you heard of Bizi Ezerioha? He's got the 1.5 all motor CRX that runs in the 10s, even in the high 9's (I think). I can't find link anymore :(
But he has the weber individual throttle bodies setup. Anyone find/have more info?

Bisi Ezerioha
CRX HF
D15B1
50mm DCO/SP Weber Carbs, High Comp Engine, Speedcamp ignition and wiring system, full intact chassis/unibody (no cut floors), RS Machine headwork and block, Elite Motorsports full cage, rear-end and exhaust, Circle Aluminum Wheels, Torco Oil

124.4 MPH (March 2001/Carlsbad, Ca)
10.93 @ 123.9 MPH (February 2002/Phoenix, AZ)

Basically from what I have heard he has the block bored out to the maximum limit so technically it isn't a 1.5L anymore. But still it is quite an impressive setup. I am sure this setup was really really expensive though.

ZC motors are junk to me. I would never suggest anyone put one in anything. Not even a golf cart.
