I'm trying to get my 68 t-bird running, the engine will start but sometimes when I turn it off,the car sputters for a while and then turns off,if any of you guys have any input it will be greatly apreciated.

Hot carbon in the cylinder will make it "diesel" when shutting it off. Put some gas additive in the fuel tank. If you shut it off while in Drive, the engine won't run on.

Be sure the timing is set correctly also.
