fuel pump resistor #14

My fuel pump resistor is at #14. Will the by pass deal work for my car? 99 Gp GT In #15 I don't even have a resistor.

3.8L Auto btw

GTs and SEs with the L36 SII 3800 do not have a fuel pump resistor. #14 is the fuel pump relay. Only L67 equipped GM cars like a GTP have relay #15 (fuel pump speed control) with a fuel pump resistor in the circuit.

My symptoms are a hestitation while warm and stalling at idle. I replaced the icm but no change. The engine runs at 170- 210 degrees for the most part. When it heats up it gets worse.
Usually the hesitation is noticed at accelleration. A slight hestation exsist during cruising speeds. Regardless Im at a loss.
Is there anything else that would cause this problem?
The new icm help in all areas electronic but this hesitation.

The best place to start if you suspect a fuel supply problem or you have not done it is check fuel pressure at the front fuel injector rail. There is a Schrader valve located at the fuel pressure regulator where you can connect an automotive fuel pressure tester.

Based on your symptoms another possible component if the problem is at acceleration which is when the PCM goes to open loop mode would be the MAF sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector to the MAF and take it out for a test drive to see if symptoms remain or improve. A bad MAF will also cause stalling at idle.

Ok, that was it. I unplugged the MAF sensor and it ran good. I drove it about 150 miles avg. from 65- 90 mph and (90 mph was while passing other vehicles) I had no troubles.

The change was 100% noticeable. We left it plugged in for 30 seconds and there was a bunch of hesitation. We unplugged it and it was smooth sailing.

1999 Grand Prix Gt 3.8 L Hesitation

Engine hesitates after it gets warm. The engine will stall at times when stopped. Problem is reoccurring after initial engine temp reaches about 185-190 degrees F. May happen at lower temps as well.
Unplug the MAF sensor on the throttle body. If it clears up the hesitation or removes it altogether. You need a MAF sensor.

My air filter was clogged up when I inspected it yesturday. So I went ahead and put a K&N air filter in.
I seen a really good counter top comparrison gadget. Two fans powering the air flow and with a common filter (fram and all other paper filters) the air flow couldnt move a ping pong ball. Put the K&N filter in and the ball launches to the top of a tube. Sold me.
