So, are you going to rebuild the engine, or just add bolt-ons?
For the most part, if you keep the cat, EGR, and AIR systems on the car, you should pass emissions. Can't go too radical with a large cam though, either.

You can do just about anything you want to if you have a custom tune, short of removing the emissions equipment.

i believe LT1 cats are good for about 400hp before they start causing too much restriction. after that, there are still high-flow sport cats, so that gear shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'm rebuilding the top half riht now.
So i am up for new valve springs or rocker arm's maybe roller or cam. Plus bolt on's.
I just dont want to put something on that is going to take more than a day to change back out once a year if I have to for the test.

So far i have.
Edlebrock headers and y pipe.
Just got the heads back from shop. had the tested and valve job.
Hypertech power programmer.
MSD cap and button. (was fun tring to find something to fit the bolts on the cap.
Taylor wires. (was a pain in the A** to change when the engine was together.
Tried to put on a GM timing set today but the cam gear did not have the teeth in the center for the opti pack.
Any one ever change the water pump gear? If so how?
Thanks everyone.

The only thing I see there that may give you trouble on emissions testing is the hypertec, but you can revert back to stock programming easily.

I was thinking of adding?
Borla cat back (can block off for a day if i have to for the test)
These wont be too bad to change for a day.
58 mm throtel body
coldair intake
bigger mass airflow meter
?????

The cat back won't affect emissions. The 58mm TB and larger MAF won't do you any good...yet. In its present form your engine doesn't use all of the air those stock parts are able to supply, especially the 58mm TB.
The "normal" order of parts installation is:
Free flowing cat back.
Headers & high flow cat
Improved intake manifold (ported or aftermarket)
Aftermarket heads or ported/polished stock heads
Now you have the potential to flow more air...next:
Cam (LT4 Hot cam is what most go for)
NOW you WILL flow more air. Now you would see a benifit from a 52 mm TB and larger MAF. If you go 58mm TB you have to port the intake where the TB bolts to. The holes in the manifold are only 52mm and putting a 58mm on there would be a waste of money without porting.
Once it is all together, contact PCM for Less for a custom tune, the hypertec won't do you any good at this point (unless you get the PCM for Less tune uploaded to it).

Thank's Morley.
That kind of puts things in order for me.
I plan on porting and polishing the intake and heads with my dremal tool.
The machine shop wanted big $$$ to do it.
Any idea how much PCM charges for a custom tune?
Still worried bout the (LT4 hot cam. Anyone out their got it that has to pass emitions ?)

I think PCM for Less charges around $150 or so but will work with you to get the tune just right, even if you have to have them change it a few times.
The LT4 hot cam is used by many in california (lots of Corvette folks), nuff said on emissions testing.
