Gear shift light flickering/broke

Hi, I recently bought a 95' Grand Prix 162,383 miles on it.
My light that illuminates the gear/shift does not start when i turn my interiors on. i have to tap the middle console to get it to flicker, it rarely ever stays on when driving. today i pulled the middle console up to check out the light, it looked fine. Since i put it back, it wont even flicker any more. Has anyone had this problem or know what it could be? I am thinking its the wiring but dont want to get into it yet until im positive its that. my last question is does this run off a different fuse than any other interiors? none of my other interior lights flicker.
