I have a 2000 Ford Contour 2.5L engine with 70,000 miles on it. Today I was driving and my O/D Off light started flashing. Now when I shift from first to second it shifts rough. It shifts a little better from second to third but still rough. What could be the problem?

It ended up being the transmission. Aamco told me $2,000 to replace it. I laughed and traded the car in. Definatly trade your Contour before it stops moving!

rebuilding the contour tranny is difficult because a lot of mechanics don't want to work on them because the casing is plastic and they break easily. depending on what kind of shape your exterior is in and how you have cared for your motor, trading it in may be your best option. i just dropped 600 bucks into mine for a bunch of work, but the car is spotless as i am a professional detailer, and have taken fairly good care of the motor since i got it. with the exception of beating on it from time to time. so i'm ok with dropping money into mine, but if yours is not in real good shape...consider how much of a new car you can get for 2000-2500 dollars.:disappoin

damn sensors...well my Contour was actually well cared for. Waxed it 5 times a year and im the only one who really rode in it so the car was mint. It always seems to be the well cared Contour's that break. They at least gave me a grand...better than the $200 a junk yard would give me.
