Pics of finished AE86 Trueno

So I finally got around to finishing this kit. It is Fujimi's 1/24 AE86 Trueno. I believe it is in the Tohge series. My major complaint is that the panel lines were neither as thin nor as consistent as Tamiya's. Some parts there was hardly any panel line at all. So the results from the black wash are not as clean as I would have liked.

It says "Trueno" on the front here, but it's too dark to see it.

all it needs is fujiwara tofu shop on the side and youre set

Nice model but as you say, the panel lines look a little sketchy.;)

I've had a mare trying to get the window trim looking good on the R33 recently, dark colours hide it, light colours make it look a lot worse than it really is... good job :)

Shame about the panel lines...but can i suggest a Gunddam Marker Pen ;) ;)

Overall i think the car looks sweet and you have done a good effort.

Yea, the panel lines do let the model down.
Try running the back of an Exacto blade down it, it may help, then blackwash it again...

Regarding the panel lines you can still improve them. Try polishing them out with a cloth and some fine rubbing paste, this will then leave the faintest line in the deepest parts.
Running a scalpel up them is asking to slip and ruin the paint, so I woudl say it is too late for that.
Then get yourself a thin Gundam marker and draw them on. Superb results guaranteed!

I don't know if you guys agree with me, but I think the problem panel lines are on the right side and the back side. I'll try Guiddy's suggestion and see what I can do about it. I am planning on working on Fujimi's new Integra Type R next, so I just took a look at it. Much to my relief, the panel lines are quite a bit nicer than on this kit.

turbos86: Yes, I do prefer the clean look. If this was the Initial D kit, I would put on the "Fujiwara Tofu Shop" decal on it, but I do not have that decal available.

This can be fixed before you start the painting process. Get a set of Rifler files, a must have tool set, in it you will find a V shaped one that is great for scribing or rescribing poor engravings. Just carefully run the V shaped filing edge through all the engravings to even them up. In the set there are also rounds, flats etc.:)

Veyron: That sounds like a good suggestion on how to even them out, but what if I want to make them thinner? Use putty then file, or what? I don't like the thicker panel lines that some models have and are evident on of those Fujimi kits that P-Man has put together.

To fix where I go over with the marker and messy panel lines, I keep a toothpick handy dipped in some thinner. Wherever you've gone over or it's uneven, just scratch it out w/ the toothpick, takes a steady hand though!
