ran out of gas now won't start !!!!

I ran out of gas:nono: , we put 5 gallons in it to get home but it won't start had to have it towed home. Please help.

It would help to know what car (make model) you are reffering too.....
Does the fuel pump run when the key is ON?
If so let it run untill it stops so it can build up fuel pressure, then try.

What did the gauge say when the engine stopped running?
What does the fuel gauge say it's at now? More than likely the pump is bad now, or the filter is extremely clogged. Have someone listen at the tank and turn the key to ON, not start and see if they can hear it prime. If not, suspect a defective pump.
You should try changing the filter, if that doesn't work, then change the pump.
Even if the filter doesn't work, it's still reccomended to change it when changing the pump.
