Brakes

Im just wondering which manufacture to go with. I know sounds simple, but having 26mm 300ZX rotors makes it challenging to find rotors that are slotted or slotted/dimpled. Anyways im in a debate between KVR and Powerslot, both almost cost the same, so any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I'm going with Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads when it'll be time for my brake job.

powerslot rotors, no cross drill. ive heard bad things about hawk pads on the street but no real experience with them. stainless braided brake hoses are mandatory. i would get endless or project mu pads. or ferodo.

Brembo blanks are also real good. Slotted rotors usually only crack when going through constant hard driving and braking but have no problems with dd. And all that crap about heat dissipation is bullshit

Yeah, I've used Powerslot, and the cheapest you can find. Unless your trackin your car, rotors dont matter at all.

Get whatevers the cheapest, and you dont need slotted or x-drilled, unless your tracking them.

Hawk pads are nice, Endless are nicer, but even OEM in Z32's are gonna bite hard...

Project Mu is overpriced JDM garbage

rotors do matter, just on a daily driver the design is basically all the same. just get high quality so your rotors last longer than your pads.

as far as kind of pads, id get ferodo ds2500 before id get hawk. project mu is overpriced but still decent quality. there are other kinds that work as well for cheaper though.

My Brembo blanks lasted no longer than my Napa OEM blanks, braked the same, but cost three times as much...

Even if they only lasted half as long, its still smarter economically to get the cheaper ones b/c they only cost me like 20 bucks

Ya i got some Project Mu's for 80, which is mean isnt exactally each, but not too expensive either, and im just gonna get some blanks as far as rotors go. IM upgrading to 30mm, just cause its easier to find quality rotors for them, plus i got reman's for 100 for both, so cant complain, and im just gonna sell my 26mm on ebay or something.

true. as far as overall brake durability goes, rotors matter very little. even if they are crap, get warped easy, rust out easy, they still most likely wont kill other parts of your brakes. if you get cheap pads or pads that are too stiff for street driving, they can destroy your rotors and possibly even damage a caliper or wheel bearing from the resulting overheating of the hub.

that said, ive had cheap rotors warp in 1/2 the time it took for the quality rotors that i replaced them with.

i wouldnt call project mu garbage lol. Pricey because of quality and proven. They dominate z32 brakes all day. Pricey because they're not stock ugliness. There performance with looks. Almost all good stuff takes both into consideration hence the price. Another good example is wheels.....light weight with good looks cost alot per rim. Or you can pan out for just good looks or just light weight and spend half as much. fno1rc for example.

Everyone takes what I say too seriously on this forum.

Its overpriced b/c its JDM, as is Tein, but for the price there are better options out there for what your looking for.

That said, anything above Z32's are excessive for street driving, especially for the cost.

dont even compare project mu to tein. tein is not only overpriced but it sucks. project mu is a bit pricey but worth the price.

Just incase anyone cared, im still bedding in my pads, but they do work really well so far compared to stock ones i had before. Im uing the Project mu B force. And i had to replace my water pump, while doing that i had a nismo thermostat so i threw that in there, the temps are lower, but nothing too signifigant, and the heater still works fine, i heard a lot of people saying the heater wont work, but it works just fine.

Ya im running 300ZX brakes all around with Project Mu pads up front, not project mu calipers if anyone thought that. Any who, i like the pads so far.

I've had my stock brakes suffer from brake fade while on the street, it's all OEM, slotted rotors would have helped a lot.

Ya brake fade is no fun. I have yet to experience any brake fade with my 300ZX setup, highly reccomended.

no......take it to a track for hard continuous driving, your 400 dollar setup will more than likely not surpass them. They are 2k nice, for when that 2k need is called for while also looking baller doing it. Of course there's going to be some mark up for them. Thats called business.....

i plan on running the project mu SCR slotted/dimpled rotors in the rear with stock calipers and SS lines. I need a little touch to the rear brakes to match a little better with fronts lol. I have some stock new pads lying around so ill use those up first just to use them. Then move on to something with a little more bite to them.

but no one but like two ppl here tracks their car...

dude Z32 all around lasts me at willow spring for 30 min till the pads lose it.
one i save up for endless pads i will be ok.
Z32 breaks are more then enough to stop the 240. ( unless u r doing 2 hour + laps)

project mu looks baller enough to justify spending teh cost even if they arent top notch. those black anodized rotors are out of control.

lol, seriously, all the cars with project mu setups are "JDM TYTE" show cars with soshinshya woka whatever the hell its called and "I <3 JDM" stickers all over...


They never see the track, and if they see a speck of dirt the driver is on his knees with a detailing kit in 30 seconds
