Problem with a turn signal.

My 2004 model Malibu keeps giving me problems with the front right turn signal. The bulb blew out, I replaced it, and then it stopped working again within two weeks. All other lights in the car seem to be working fine. Someone on a previous thread informed me that Malibus do not have a fuse specifically designated for the turn signals, making it unlikely that a faulty fuse is the problem. Regardless, I checked all of the fuses having anything to do with the lights, and all of them are fine. Furthermore, if the problem was a fuse, I don't think the turn signal would have functioned properly for a continuous two week period. Other posters with similar problems have been told that it might be due to a faulty hazard switch. However, I am unsure as to whether or not this is my problem because I would assume that the hazard switch would affect both of my turn signals, but in my case, the problem seems to be isolated to a single bulb which works for a short time when replaced. Please help me as I have no clue where I should go from here.

This is a toughie.. I would check the socket with a multimeter, looking for any anomalies then continue back along the harness as far as possible. Perhaps the bulb is getting to much amperage, shortening its life span. As well check the ground for the turn signal light itself, it is loose it may be conencting and disconnecting over bumps causing a surge to the filament.

If it was a turn signal issue with too much amperage, I would guess that both bulbs would blow if there was a spike in voltage, as well as the electronics within the turn signal system.

Now if you have the new bodystyle, Id reccomend checking relay #27 and fuse #6 in the rear compartment fuse block (in the trunk, left hand side) The relay may be faulty. Unfortunatly I dont have a classic style malibu, thus know little about its wiring..
