found another little querk in my 94 camry.

once in awhile, the power steering will be like i have none at all, like it will tighten up but not be unbareable. a couple of turns later and its back to normal again. i checked the fluid level and it was ok... any ideas?

thanks :banghead:

try changing the fluid but sounds like your going to need new pump.....good luck....

oh and are you sure something else isn't loose or in a bind? i no you don't want to hear this but also could be the rack...

...or it may be a loose belt.

 ok, got some great news!

apparently the car sat for a few months and the steering knuckle under the hood right by the firewall was drying out. i put some pb blaster on it, then silicone grease spray and bam! like brnad new.

thanks guys!

I have had a similar intermitant problem with my power steering on my 92 Camry. More recently I've noticed that if I accelerate agressively the power steering will become manual. This will last as long as it takes to hit a rounded curb on the right side (5-15km/h) then the power steering works well. I've observed this alternatance twice now.
