speedo cable help!

i have a 66 dynamic 88 olds ragtop. my speedo cable seized up and snapped. the core wire is stuck inside...i mean really stuck inside the outer metal sleeve. all 3 or 4 feet of it wont budge. i cant find one to save my life..i found a inner replacement but cant find a new sleeve. anyone have any suggestions how to pull the inner cable out of the sleeve? or where to find another cable? ive tried hemmings and kanter and all the repro supply houses i could find through hemmings but came up with nothing so far. im going to try soaking the whole cable in oil overnight and trying to see if the cable budges at all, but im assuming its so frayed and jammed up in there its a lost cause. anyone know of an alternative to running the cable to the wheel hub? any ideas would be appreciated...thanks in advance:banghead:

Most GM cables from that era were the same, I would scour some yards for a cable from any GM full size that had a turbo 400 or 3 spd super turbine trans.

the problem is this cable doesnt run to the tranny...it runs to the drivers side wheel hub assembly. its a short cable for the most part but has a long shaft with a fitting on it that fits into the back of the wheel assembly...wierd. but then again im not an expert on speedometer cables, ive never had to replace one on any car ive ever restored. could i run a standard cable to the tranny? would my stock tranny have a port for the cable?

I doubt it, but take a look at the front area of the tailshaft.

i actually ended up fabricating one while re-using the salvageable parts of the old one. i was able to buy a new inner core and replace the rusted outter casing parts by splicing in small pieces of brake line. sounds cheesy but it worked really well and doesnt look half bad. what an odd cable...i can see why they are so hard to find. hopefully this one will last another 35 years like the last one. thanks for your advice, it got the brain going.

Yeah, they run off the LF hub. The grease cap has a receiver that the square cable end sits in. It goes right through the spindle. I'm lucky I never had to replace the casing on mine.

I had replaced the one on my 66 and it goes to the LF wheel. The old cable on mine was stuck too.
I used wd40 and got it loose, what a pain in the a** !!

Bought a long cable and cut to length.
Also I used silicone high temp grease on the cable to keep it from sticking ever again.
