This was originally just a fun quick build using left over parts from a build I did of a friend's '88 Turbo. Had it almost finished about a week and a half ago and it took a detour.
After having a bad reaction with the clear over the TS-38 Gunmetal paint, I stripped it, what a pain. Wet urethane over dry Tamiya lacquer (the grey was about 5-6 months dry). Used denatured alcohol, messy, very messy... Then scrubbed it with Comet cleanser.

Primed it, yes, green primer...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC01958.jpg
Then reshot the Gunmetal and lightly (this time) cleared it again with the same urethane clear, as a sealer sort of. There is a Smoke fade around the lower areas of the body, almost visible in the photo.

Modified a passenger seat from the Modena I took the wheels from... Seat belt decals from the parts box...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC01987.jpg
A little wash (to make it dirty ironically) and shading on the engine and chassis...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC01989.jpg
Door panels on and ready to go into the body...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/DoctorJones/DSC01990.jpg
I tried TS-71 Smoke for the window tint, looks promising, although not perfect on this one, but hey, it was just a test...

And here it is done. The blue is TS-44 Brilliant Blue. The C/F is SMS HiDef 1/20 scale. One more out of the "parking lot" area of my shop. Guess I can start something new now... - Mark

Yeah...very clean build and nice interior, but strange color combo. I don't like the wheels at all, sorry.

No need to apologize, it wasn't built for you...

Hey Mark,

thanks for sharing this inspiring work. The execution is stunning as usual.
I was thinking doing my next project going the same kind of direction. Iīd just like to make a GT3-Race Version and cover it with CF-Decals (the thing you did on the fender). Can you give some advice in order to make some sort of templates or do you just let the Decal Setting Solution do itīs work.
BTW do not even worry about likes and dislikes. It ainīt worth worrying about.

I like the Gunze Mr. Mark Softer for solvent, and it works very well with these decals. Even when the decals are tailor cut for the parts, you'll need it most of the time.
I usually sketch out or trace from the car what I want to cover with the decal C/F. One trick that helps to save decal material is after doing one panel that has a mirror duplicate on the other side, use the left over paper backing as a template, but often you can trim it down (since you have seen how it fits, and I usually leave a bit extra around the edges to be safe) and save even more material.

I think it looks great, but you lied, it's not a "street" 911.... it has slicks! :uhoh:

Super clean! I love the bare carbon fender idea. Enough to steal it for one of my projects;) Keep up the great work!

Yeah, you caught me, should be street/club and it's club trim, yeah that's it, uh-huh, mmm-yeah... No license plate either... It was still fun to play with it...

it's not a "street" 911.... it has slicks! :uhoh:

Means nothin'. When the BMW club I belong to does autocross events, all the hardcore guys switch to slicks- but the cars of course have to be street legal. (But if anyone actually showed in a GT2, I expect alot of us would pack in early.)

Lovely work, as always. :grinyes: The sun looks great on the metal flake. But the blue skirts makes it look like it rides really high, I think....

Hmmm...let me think....It's a model not a 1/1... It's an "interpretation"...It was for fun....

I like it just because it IS different and off the wall :D

(PS I had no idea you build things other than 7s.... :evillol:)

I used the Gunze Mr. Decal Softener on my BMW M1 Map de France and on interior parts of my CLK-DTM. From my experience the solven sometimes develops spots on the decals like you see on clothes that have been wet for a certain amount of time. Does that mean I used too much solvent or is it a particular bad reaction on the decal? Have you ever experienced something like that??

I have had similar reactions as you describe Robert. I think it's related to the specific decals, some just seem to be more sensitive, possibly due to the inks used. (That's just my general all encompassing "best guess", without seeing first hand.) Usually a clearcoating will hide it.
It is possible that a "hot spot" developed from a drop sitting in one place on the decal. I try to keep lightly brushing the solvent and help guiding the decal to conform, of course there are times you just have to wait and do nothing while the solvent does it's job on some more stubborn projects.

Probably looks a bit high due to the over sized wheels I crammed under it. They can't go any farther up into the wheel wells. I also removed the massive camber, that changed the look of the stance too... - Mark

I think it looks great. I liked the green primer, and feel it would have looked great with the blue two tone and carbon fiber.

as for a GT-2 out performing everyone on the track...my friend has a "stock" (cams, carbs, intake, exhaust, high comp flat top pistons, and a few other tricks, but it passes as stock because everything is an OEM part for that motor) non turbo motor in his '73 Datsun 240Z and he runs circles around gt-2s all the time. might just be the driver, but he passes them on the straights.
