I had posted the bottom two segments to someone else’s thread however it was suggested to start my own to get as much info as possible. So here are my two original posts. PLEASE HELP!!!!
1. I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu 3.1 V6 and two weeks ago I started having the same problem. I had the fuel filter changed and it didn't help and NOW I had the plugs and wires changed and my car runs hot, smells like something is burning and won't even go over 20 mph. If you have had this issue resolved can you please tell me what was wrong with you car. I REALLY NEED TO KNOW!!! :banghead:
PS I had it hooked up to a scope and there are no codes reporting.
2. Ok I'm going to back up a bit....my b/f changed the wires and plugs and mixed up 1-3-5 and that's why it wasn't going over 20mph...now it's going over 20mph and is running better but it's not running normally to say. When it reaches about 15-18mph it decellerates and then you have have give a good excelleration to pick back up...better than before. However there is still a burning smell, kinda like rotten eggs. My b/f's thought is that it's the catalytic converter. What do you think? P.S. Now the check engine light is on!!!! :uhoh:

Update!! :disappoin
After the plugs and wires were replaced yesterday my car still wasn't running any different other than I was able to go over 20mph again. Today I had the wires tested and I was getting a weak spark on my number 2 cylinder. So a friend of the family that owns an autobody shop recommended replacing the coil. Had it tested and was running better but still jerking accellerating from a stop. Took the ignition coil modular to Auto Zone and had that tested and it failed miserably. So I bought a new ICM. It's running better, I don't have to step on the gas as hard to accellerate, HOWEVER on take off it's jerking before switching gears...and after having it tested again there is still problems with the number 2 cylinder. It's now been suggested that I have a clogged fuel injector. Anyone got any ideas. Does this sound right? My catalytic converter is fine that was tested and there are no problems. So I need to know if I'm on the right track.
I've so far replaced:
fuel filter
plugs
wires
#2/5 coil
iginition coil module
Thanks in advance for any information you can give.

Perhaps a shot of fuel injector cleaner would help.. Id remove the injector myself and have a look failing that.

:banghead: I thought that problem too however I took it to GoodYear, because I got a discount there due to my autobody guy always referring business. They flushed my fuel injectors and I still have the same problem. GoodYear said that my catalytic converter is going and that's the root of my problem, so on Monday I will be having that replaced and hopefully all with be well. :banghead:
Thanks for the advice!
