hi-I am still messing around with mom's 99 taurus se 3.0 (vulcan?) i keep forgetting, the 12 valve with 3.0 on intake. anyways, code p1504 and p0401 came back after i erased them, in that order. i did the trick like you said by unplugging the iac with it running, and turning the wheel hard left and right, no difference! i tested it with my meter and it had like 7 ohms resistance- not within spec. do you think i should go ahead and buy a new one? would it be a waste of time to get a used one? i know after reading multiple posts about p0401, but i wonder, if p1504 comes up first, then p0401, no engine light, am i right getting rid p1504 first? sorry to be so long winded.

No problem.

Did I send you the diagnostic routine for the P1504 code? If not, that may help. If you'd like me to send it, private message me with an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments.

You really will want to make sure the IAC fault is not due to a wiring problem. Once you verify the wiring is okay, then I'd suggest you replace the IAC as this code is pretty specific.

With the OBDI system, it was generally accepted that you start with the highest code first and see how manual "lower" codes that fixes. I'm not sure that the same applies to OBD-II though.
