To answer your question, yes you can swap the v6 or a v8. But its not really worth it. It would be cheaper to sell the 6 and buy a car with an LS1 or LT1 already in it.

As Poor said.. it would cost more money than it's worth to swap a V8. Best to just trade it in and pay off the difference if that's what you truly desire. If you're wanting to know how to get the most horses out of your current motor.. then you're in the right direction. Intake comes first, headers, a cat converter, and a cat back exhaust. Those are all the first steps towards bolt on modifications. You won't ever get a "deep" exhaust tone with a V6, it's just not possible. I bought Borla for my 3.4L just because I wanted to have my exhaust sound the best possible. It sounds great at idle, but once that 3k mark comes in it starts to get a little higher pitched. It'll never sound like a V8, the only way to have that sound is to actually have a V8.

You gotta remember that the 3.4L's only came out of the factory with 160 fly wheel HP. So out of that you're only getting about 140 hp to the rear wheels. It's not the best motor to attempt to modify. Mainly because, poor aftermarket, computers aren't possible to tune, poor design outright. GM did a real crappy job designing the 3.4L. It has so many flaws and weaknesses, that why I stopped modding mine after the intake, headers, and exhaust. The only way to quickly get a decent amount of power out of it would be to throw some nitrous on it, or get a turbo. From what I've read, it can safely handle a 50 shot. Anything over that, and eventually it's going to have some problems.

But good luck with whichever route you decide to go.
