B16a V.s. B16b

What makes the B16B motor make more power than the B16A motor?
They're both the same displacement. I know that the B16B has higher compression... If that's it, then wouldn't it be cost efficient to buy B16B pistons for a B16A to sorda make the "poormans Civic Type R"?
I was just wondering, got thinking today about why it makes so much more horsepower...

The B16B motor is hand assembled. The head has mild port and polish job....and flows by far better than the all ready good flowing B16A head. The camshafts are the best Honda has to offer. The intake cam actually has 3 degrees more lift/duration than the Integra Type Rs...and the exhaust cam is identical to the ITRs. The pistons are high compression and it has a slightly larger bore i believe...the rods and crank are also stronger to allow it to rev to 8400rpm on a daily basis w/ reliability. The entire valve train is better and made to withstand high Rs. I dont know all of the specifics...but these are SOME of the reasons for the 25-30crank hp difference between the JDM first gen B16A..and the USDM B16A....and the CTR B16B. :cool:

What is the difference between the JDM B16A and the USDM B16A?
Hp/torque? Reliability? Revving? And why is there a difference?

Also for first gen JDM B16A can you rev it to 8k daily w/ reliability?

I am not a B series guy but I will answer to the best of my knowledge. There is not really a diffrence between the Sir1 (JDM) b16 and the (USDM) b16 exept on the JDM b16 there is a more aggressive fuel curve programed into the ECU.

Now on the Sir2 (JDM) b16 there is a .2 higher compression ratio and also a more aggressive ECU program which enabled the B16 to have 10 more horses over the (USDM) Sir2 B16.

yeah your about right the bad thing if you get the jdm version you need to detune the ecu because they are set to run 93 octane gas you might have octane that high where you live but in cali we get 91 93 is hard to find
