I went to the salvage yard today and picked up rims off a 1979 Buick LeSabre. since they are a standard GM 5 lug, i was told these will fit onto the Caprice too right? they are the same 16 inch only they got chrome and will look nice, i will need to put smaller tires on them as well because the ones on them right now are a bit bigger thant the ones i got on the car right now.

If your caprice is the civi model, then the bolt lugs are 5 x 4.75", but if you have a wagon, or 9C1 Caprice, then you will have the 5 x 5" bolt pattern. Odds are from the pic, you've got the civi (5 x 4.75") so odds are the rims you picked up should fit. I'd check before buying tires for em though. Just take one of your wheels off and see if the rim fits.

yeah mine isn't a 9C1 and obviously not a wagon, the buick i took the rims from was not a wagon either and definetly not a 9C1 (they diddnt even make buicks like that 9C1's did they?). but yeah i'll make sure they fit of course though before i go any further. here is a pic of the rims i got too if anyone wanted to see what im working with: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a367/pctvman/Rimforcaprice.jpg

If your car has the same 5-on-4.75 pattern (all civvies do - as do some 9C1s), those wheels should work fine. The only thing you should check is backspacing - should be 3". Keep in mind, however, the wheels might be 6" wide, not a problem if you're not running tires more than 215 width.

yeah i think i want to just keep the same size as to what i have on the car now (in my sig pic). i'll probably just have the tires on there now put onto the rims i got today since theres still good tread on them anyway.

My old 1975 Grand Am had the 5-on-4.75 pattern 15x7 rims, 3" backspacing, the Pontiac rally wheels (Rally II). My 9C1 was one of a few that were factory shipped with the 5-on-4.75 pattern (as it was a detective car and not a pursuit car - it was a 9C1 in frame, interior and electric only) so I swapped wheels with the Pontiac. The wheels fit nice.

That sounds cool, one way or another im sure mine will look nice too, i want go for the sporty look so i figured these will do good. i paid about 66 bucks at a self serve salvage yard for the rims so that wasnt bad at all, and they look nice, i think i want to keep it with the white wall tires too.

A friend of mine had an 87 Cadillac Fleetwood with American racing 5 stars with new tires, he gave me the rims when he junked the car. I have an 83 caprice classic and as far as I know it’s a civi... the rims won’t fit, the holes are off by a hair. Did Cadillac have a different lug pattern than Chevy?

well they look good
silicon, what do you think of these?
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g103/GreyGoose006/usw-94-5812.jpg
they look like nascar wheels, but with chrome centers and outer rings
i was thinking about 15 x 8.
i would have to get 3.75" backspacing, but i think it might work.

They're alright. I wanted a set of those exact wheels really bad for my '72 Impala way back in the day (20 years ago).
BTW they're really nothing like NASCAR wheels. The Cragar 342s (what I have) or the American Racing AR767 are NASCAR style.

what i am mostly concerned about is the 3.75 inch backspacing. will that work?

It should work okay on the back, not sure about the front.
Those rims are too wide for standard size tires. They're meant for 265 or wider tires. You really should think about 7" wide rims.
I got mine at Discount Tire for $45 each.

ok
the thing is that i cant get any less than 3.75" backspacing, even with 7" width.
