Diabling Door Chime

Can anyone tell me how to disconnect the door chime when the key is in the ignition and the door is open.

I have a job where I need to be in and around the car constantly, and the door chime is very irritating. Disconnecting the fuse is no good, since it also controls other functions. I have tried to locate the chime, and at first it sounded like it was coming fro under the steering column, but I believe I have tracked it to somewhere behind the emergency brake, but I can't seem to pin it down.
