91 GSX serious electrical issue! Please help!

Hey everybody. I have a 91 gsx that was given to me by a friend. When I got it, I was told about some of the problems it had. It needs a clutch, alternator, new computer and a battery. When I put the battery in it, I have no electrical power except a glove box light. I checked as many fuses as I can. They are all good. I still have not put an alternator on it or replaced the ecu, but I have been told that those two things would not give me these problems. Maybe they are wrong. I am trying to at least get the car to crank before I start on the clutch. I know the ecu must be replaced before she will crank. If anyone has any ideas where I should start, please let me know.
