Ok, I just bought a 99 Grand Am SE with a 3.4 and an Automatic.
It will not shift into third gear??? I just had the fluid flushed and topped off because I had to replace some trans cooling lines. I did drive with the fluid alittle low before I got it topped off ( I belive it was 2 quarts low ).
It was fine then, all it did was slip a little going down the freeway, but nothing bad. Since I had it topped off, it will not go into 3rd, if I am going down the freeway it whines way up and I go through alot of gas.:banghead:
I have heard that it may be a sensor? Everything else with the car if fine, it doesn't make alot of niose or sound like anything is wrong with the trans????

Any help would be great, I am taking it up to the pontiac dealer tomorrow:shakehead

Welcome to AF campbellsoup24.

I would take it back to whom ever flushed the trans.
Best bet is to make them scan it for codes so they'll know exactly whats wrong.

It could be a clog somewhere from the flush pushing all the crap into the valve body passages or as you said a shift solenoid(sensor).

Dont screw around very long with it like this it will burn it up! To many things to realy list of what it "could be".

Let us know what the trouble was and Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply, I am taking it today to have it looked at, I am hoping its somthing simple? It seems to shift from 1 to 2 fine? No nioses or anything else out of the ordinary? I'll update you guys on what the cause is. I never knew it was bad to flush it until I started reading about it on here?

Thanks Agian.

Mike

You will hear diffent conflicting things about flushing.
So say its OK and others, like me, dont feel its necessary or helpfull at all.
