I have no idea how to use this so bare with me :P
I have a 99 Grand Am. Every once in awhile I will start it and my security light will come on and it won't let me start it. So I wat and than it will. Sometimes the light will come on when I am driving.

I brought it in and they told me it had to do with my keyless entry. They said I needed new batteries and to get it activated. The thing is I have never used them because they have never worked in the 5 years I owned the car. Could this be possible? Or could it be something else that they do not see? The tested my starter and said it was fine. Looking up on here all I can seem to find is people saying its the starter.

Any adive please! Theres got to be someone out there with the same problem!

Take it somewhere else!

It is a common problem with different fixes but is usually the key lock cylinder or the ignition switch that the cylinder sets in. The lock cylinder isnt to expensive but the ignition switch is pricey!

Best to hav it diagnosed by someone who is familur with GM and thier faulty security systems.

Good Luck

It is the module inside of your ignition and i priced it is like 600.00 dollars, It is exactly ten minutes that you have to wait with your ignition switch in the on position and it will stop flashing and then start. Its crazy. I've been doing it for a long time cause I can't afford to fix it right now.

It sounds like it may be another issue, but if you have the remotes, new batteries (if you need them) are like $2-3 at Walmart (CR-2032).

Programming is simple:

Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed.

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)
To program the transmitters, perform the following procedure while seated in the vehicle driver's seat:

Close all the vehicle doors.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold unlock on the door lock switch.

Important
To successfully enter the keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode, steps 4 through 6 must be completed within 25 seconds of pressing the door unlock switch.

While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and remove the ignition key twice. Do not rotate the ignition lock cylinder.
Insert the ignition key a third time leaving the key in the ignition lock cylinder. The ignition must remain in the LOCK position for the rest of the procedure.
Release the door lock switch. The chime will sound three chimes to signal that transmitter programming/diagnostic mode is active.
Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the keyless entry transmitter for approximately 10-15 seconds. The chime will sound two times to signal that the transmitter has been programmed successfully.
Repeat step 7 for the rest of the transmitters (for a total of 4 transmitters).
To exit the transmitter programming/diagnostic mode perform either of the following:
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.

Your advice has nothing to do with the security light/issues .
And thanx for the key fob program, we already have a thread for this. :grinyes:

This is a typical GM problem which can be fixed reativly easy.
A new ignition switch or the lock cyl, could also be a PCM problem but doubtful.
Only way to find out is with a Tech II(or equivalent)scan tool. :smooch:

Good luck
