Etched GT Wings version 2

Now had these revamped, the new parts came this morning. To get around the folding issue with the lower attachments, i redesigned it so that it now has two seperate halves - one to go onto the wing stay, the other onto the model.

tell me what you think?

Chris, wouldn't the supports be stronger if they were bent at the 90 degrees instead of two separate pieces? I believe the 1:1 versions are at 90 right? The chance of some novice getting CA everywhere is much more likely, wouldn't you agree?

Looks good though. Better thatn the Aoshima stuff. This is the first time I've seen your wings. I remember a past thread about them.

Yes Walter, you are right but this - i feel - is the best solution to the problem. My original design was to have etched from thinner metal and for them to fold like the real thing, but after some discussion with the etching manufacturer we decided that it would be best to produce all the parts from the same thickness of metal. This way the parts with the bolt detail on could be half etched in order to relieve the detail whilst at the same time reducing the thickness of the metal in comparison to that of the uprights - like the real thing! The etchers overlooked a major problem with this, which was that if those parts are half etched they could not have the fold lines etched too. To cut a long story short, their solution to the problem was a bad one and meant that the parts could not be folded properly meaning they were useless.

I will admit that these certainly are fiddly and fragile, but with care you can make what's seen above. Also, although not seen in the pics, you can leave the sprue on the bottom of the uprights to form a locator pin. If you were to drill holes into the model prior to painting it will fix in securely, the two halves can then be attached to conceal the join - does that make sense?

Yes it does. I didn't realize that you'd have the remaining sprue form the uprights to strengthen the mount. The brackets are just covers/reinforcements then. That works for me! Just a little Tamiya clear will do the job of fastening those bits instead of CA!

I wasn't thinking about the size of those support brackets. They must be pretty small to have bending problems at a certain thickness. Well, your engineering solutions with the etchers should make for a great selling item for ease of assembly. ;) :)
