Hey Vipey, Look at the Performance and Parts thread at the beginning of the main G/a Page( just below the off topic thread). I know there are a few sites lists there with the carbon fiber hoods.

carbon fiber grand am sc/t ram air hood for the win.... +1 !
completely custom job tho, and you'd have to get someone GOOOD that can work the CF to identical
if you just want a general carbon fiber hood, no scoops or w/e the performance parts thread has a link somewhere in there for that

that one at custom auto trim is pathetic!
Its just a scoop that cost way too much!!
You can get a T/A ram air scoop like that and it looks BA on a grand am. You still have to afix it to the hood, blend then p/p.
I think Vipey is looking for a CarbonFiber hood.
They are on PFYC about $$ 650 $$.
Wont take much to break,
and you sure as hell dont want anyone sitting on it! I've seen it happen :disappoin
I'll see if I can find the one that has the TA scoops on it :D

Hi Xero; how ya' been?
I had a fiberglass hood on my 1974 Firebird Formula 400.(lol.. now I'm showing my age, huh???)
That hood was a authentic Pontiac hood that came on my Formula 400; I think it came on all Formula's back then. Anyways, it did develope a slight curve to it on the driver side. Not very noticeable, but it used to bug the heck out of me because I'm one of those damn perfectionists, lol...
One of my buddies said it might have warpped a bit from a combination of heat from the engine, and the outside temperature being about 105 degrees. Of course, that was fiberglass though.... Anyone ever hear of fiberglass doing that ???
I have no experience with carbon fiber yet... Hey, that's for you younger guys now, lol.... I'm too old !!! (but I luv my GT1...) (and still raise a bit of hell with it too...)

Hey Tommy,
those older TA/Firebird's did that for some reason.
I know I used to have a 76' w/409 (what a dog that was) :thumbsdow
The hood was in great shape. My friend had one and it sunk in bad. I figured it was a quality control issue , probly didnt mix the resin good when they fabed them :dunno:
These aftermarket one's are pretty good from what I've heard. These days they bake the hoods inside the molds usually, thus preventing warpage.
Sure are pricey though

25lb loss on any part of the car for most people would be considered very good. What's the black voodoo magic rule? 100lbs = 1 tenth at the dragstrip or something?

Errr good point... I'll just go on a huge diet or something and drop from 145 to 115 lbs LOL!
i won't remove my 15" sub cuz it gives me back massages and people go :eek2: when they see / hear it :p
But yeah, I think engine work would be more price/performance. Supercharger probably even more. Wouldn't get the RSM one I think because it doesnt look like it's belt-driven. Definitely want a belt-driven supercharger or none at all
So looks like probably engine components, then maybe a carbon hood (cuz I love the RAM style hood) which I will promptly paint silver.
Or something? Or maybe brakes/rims :uhoh:
So many options, so little money :disappoin

Yeah. But 1/40th of a second is not noticeable by anybody on the planet I think. I'd mainly get the carbon fiber hood for the LOOKS (the RAM AIR aspect). The weight-loss would be just an added plus.

Tell that to the guys that race sport compact. Everything counts, especially on evenly matched cars.
Also lowering center of gravity, can play a part in road racing if you're into that. Which taking weight from up high helps lower things, little by little.
