So what do you guys think is a good price without getting ripped off? after driving a wrx i said to myself screw this i need some more power but im not leaving DSM for any car, except a supra, sorry but it has been my dream car since i was a little kid.

Why you get all your knowledge and everything from your GS, and then consider a gsx later. You dont need one right now. Learn basics and how to drive, then move on to something better like that. Got to start somewhere.

your right, it just sucks so bad having an underpowered car, so if i see one for a good price im sure as hell im gonna get it. so wat do you guys think 5 to 6 grand more or less? o and about learning how to drive, ive been driving manual trans since i was ten so i pretty sure i got the driving thing down.

3500-4000 for a nice unmolested 95-96 GST/GST.

4500-6000 for a 95-95 gsx, more for a 97, but mileage, condition, location, and all sorts of other things come into play too.

Yeah GSX's or TSI AWD's are pretty hard to come by in good shape...It took me about a good 6 months of real hard searching to find mine...I also agree with maybe waiting a while before you jump into it...Do you have another vehicle that you are going to keep or is it going to be your daily driver?

na its gonna be a dd.

I suggest keeping 2 car when it come to mod  . 1 for dd and 1 for KEEP IN THE SHOP !!!

I agree with Killa....if you are going to mod your new car I would seriously consider keeping your GS...I wish I would have kept my RS for daily driving now....

well i was gonna sell the gs to some stupid kid that just got his license or something for like 5000, they are easy to find around here. Rich kids think if it looks fast it is fast, o and if its manual they think they can beat any1.lol
so that would get me most of the money for the new car, you know what im sayin?

there is a lot more to driving than shifting a manual transmission. Make sure you get a stock gsx, then read, read, and read some more. Autocross it, learn the limits, do all the maintenance, then start modding.

dont get me wrong, i dont think just because someone can drive stick they can drive. If i were to get it i would definatly autocross it just to get a feel for the car. And as far as the reading and maintainance goes, that is a no-brainer, thats the same with any car, you have to read up about it and get a tune up before all else.

Well if you can get that for it, then I'd sell it, just make sure you find a semi-unmolested turbo so you can get a good, slow start to things.

Nice find Ned, it looks like it's in good shape, the only thing is that it's modded already and you've been around here long enough to know that those aren't always the best cars, but you already knew that. ;) The price seems decent though, you could probably talk him down to around $7k though if you're good. :2cents:

If you mod a car, you probably drive it hard. Try and find a closer to stock one man, they're out there. Find the grandmas!

Can't stress it enough: make sure you have a decent DD if you plan to get jiggy with modding a turbo DSM. A great majority of us folks on here usually have their turbo DSMs chilling in the shop for notorious amounts of time.

Just make sure you don't tell him that there's a recall on the ball joints and he can get them fixed at the dealer for free.

1995 thru 1999. It's recall # "SR-004-001" issued in January 2004 and covers the lower ball joints and control arms.
You can take a look at the list of recalls and TSB's for the '97 Spyder here:

I was looking for 6 months before i found mine as well and i had to get it from florida, i live in colorado. But i got a pretty good steal on mine i got it for 4900 with most of the upgrades in my sig already on it. From my searching the awd start at around 5 for a little beat up 95 ones and only go up from there

I don't know if any of these things have been fixed on my car so should i just print this list and take it to them and say fix it? its a really looonng list of stuff... there was one owner before me so.. I'm not sure. Also is that just for the gs-t or for all turbo models?

When you look at that page, you will see two distinct areas. One shows the safety recalls, which the dealer is required to fix or at least inspect. The lower area is for TSB's, or Technical Service Bulletins. TSB's are not things that the dealership is required to fix. They are more like repair guidelines for the service tech and contain things such as common problems, updates to specifications, etc.
The dealer will only take care of the safety recalls and can tell you if they were performed on your vehicle if you call and give them the VIN.

it says for these cars
Automotive Recall and Technical Service Bulletin Titles for 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS-T FWD L4-1997cc 2.0L DOHC Turbo MFI.
My car is a gsx so i don't think that this will apply to me.

I chose the Spyder GST because that's what I have, either way, all the GST's / GSX's have the ball joint recall. You can check out any car you want by choosing your year on the right side of this page:

Yea I actually has a 97 GSX a year or so ago, got a pretty good deal so I sold it just to make a profit... then I found a better deal on a 96 (even though I like the 97 better of course :P)
great condition 40k original miles only 7k... Just keep lookin on all the websites religiously and eventually you will come across a good deal. took me 3 to 4 months of checking all the car sites and newspapers every single day to find one though :p

well this thread isnt about my engine problem, it was about how a 420a doesnt have enough power for me. the problem with my engine is that the head cylinder cracked and some other stuff, i just got an engine from the junk yard and had it rebuilt.
