The car has a bad engine vibration from idle to about 2000 rpm's after that it runs smooth. It does the same thing while sitting in park or driving it down the road,it feels as if it has a bad harmonic balancer or wrong flywheel type vibration but the balancer looks fine and it looks like the transmission has never been changed,is it possible that it could be a broken crankshaft? the engine is a 2.3 automatic.

If you had a broken crankshaft, your engine would quite possibly not run. I \'d run with the simple problems first. You may have a broken vacuum line or perhaps your injectors are dirty. They have a high side and low side and the low side may be dirty. So do some problem elimination and go from there.

Ok thanks I will give that a try.The reason I mentioned the crankshaft was because a friend of mine had a 86 mustang gt that had a broken crankshaft and it would still run.

I would bet on a bad fan clutch.

check yor mototr mounts. the delivery trucks i drive at work have the same problem ant the have a broken motor mount. the easiest way to check them is to open the hood stand off to the sie of the car and have someone put it in gear and power brake it. watch the drives side mount. if it moves and you can see a big gap open up in it it's bad
