Engine hesitates

I have a '90 GP. 3.1 L. I got some great advice about changing the rear spark plugs from this forum so here I go again. The car hesitates when I step on the gas. At first start up in the morning it is worse but gets better as the car warms up. I haven't checked or done anything yet except change the plugs but not the wires. The old plugs all looked the normal light brown color. Any thoughts??? :uhoh: Thanks!!

Is the check engine light on? If so, pull the codes and post the findings. It will help us narrow down the problem.

Thanks for the response. The check engine light does not come on. The car has only 90,000 miles on it and everything else works fine. The engine is nice and clean, no smoke or leaks, starts right up, even when it was -12 degrees out, and idles just fine. It has good pick-up but it's just when I come to a dead stop or slow down and gas it again it hesistates slightly. I did check the air filter and it was clean with no obstructions.

I would suggest cleaning out the throttle body. I had this trouble...and it went away when I cleaned everything up. I have a 98 ...however.....but it is worth a shout. My MAF was filthy.....I used a cotton swab and alcohol on it....and the IAC was nasty....I used throttle body cleaner on that. If you spray throttle body cleaner into your intake....be prepared for the computer to turn the check engine light on. It will take a bit to burn all of it out...and might give you errors on the cat.....but will correct it self. My 2 cents good luck

I haven't cleaned out the throttle body yet. I tried using Lucas gas treatment and it seemed to work somewhat. Any thoughts on their products anyone???

I will try cleaning out the throttle body soon.

Thanks for the help again guys!!:grinyes:
