i had my car inspected and they said that i needed a new clutch (hard to get into gear..have to spam the clutch to get it into gear) i dont know too much about clutches but i see clutch 'Kits' for sale with a pressure plate , street disc, throw out bearing and aligment tool. but what is a flywheel? do i need that also? im confused as hell, sorry im a car noob lol

** i have a 95 eagle talon awd tsi with a 92 head and tranny..would i need a 92 or 95 clutch kit?

No you do not need a new flywheel unless your has teeth missing or if you desire a lighter one for quicker revs.

Yea you actually do need a new flywheel. The flywheel wears just like everything else. Some people choose to resurface them but if you have hot spots on it from the clutch slipping you must replace it. If you choose not to replace it then dont get pissed when your new clutch starts slipping soon.

hm well it doesn't necessarily slip i don't think. ...the symptoms are, when i first start to drive the clutch gets softer and i can't get into gear unless i press it a few times quickly, and when i can't get it into gear i hear this grinding type of noise but then the noise goes away when i release the clutch. Also while i am driving and trying to change gears (e.g. 3rd to 4th) it would grind unless i pressed the clutch 2-3 times before putting it in. both master and slave cylinders are good on fluid and i tried bleeding them and it only worked for a day or so. if i do get a flywheel would i need one for a 95+ or a 92? i have a 95 tsi awd with a 92 head / tranny. thanks

Sounds like you have problems with your hydrolic system. You have to be sucking in air from somewere. A worn clutch would slip not make it hard to change gears. Also the flywheel would be determined by the motor you have. You should have a 7 bolt so get a 7 bolt flywheel.

Yeah if it got better when you bled the system and then got worse again I think it would be either your slave or master cylinder. Just cause they have fluid doesnt mean they are good....Check they slave by pulling back the little boot around the pin and see if there is any fluid in there....Usually if the master is bad it will be leaking fluid down by the clutch pedal.

I agree with silvr about the flywheel. If your car has high mileage, you can try to have it resurfaced, but you are better off getting one with the clutch kit. If you do have it surfaced, make sure they get the step height right. It needs to be matched to the clutch, not the factory specs which is what every machine shop wants to use.

Oh, and check out the master and slave before you go spending money on the clutch kit. I ended up having to replace them both last year on the Spyder.
