just replaced a broken alternator drive belt on my 88 civic. car had sat for a few weeks without running. after new belt was put on, engine won't turn over. new belt turns, but just hear a whirring sound, probably the starter motor? no ecu codes, with ignition on, cel comes on and goes off after a couple seconds, can hear fuel pump click on. help, what's wrong?

The most obvious suggestion is maybe after the belt broke and the car sat maybe the battery doesn't have enough juice to actually turn the motor. did you try boosting it to see? I'm almost sure thats it. You could bump start it to and see if yours is a standard

Recharge your batt., if that doesnt work try bench testing your starter and see if the motor cranks. The whirring sound could be just the starter spining without engaging the flywheel.
