I'm concerned about the safety rating on the 03 deville

Hi all, I'm a brand new member here and I've got a question/concern. I did ask in the deville forum already, but it's pretty dead over there and I would like to get my car tomorrow if possible.

I'm looking at devilles and there's a good deal on an 03 certified used deville at a near by dealership.

However, I looked up the safety ratings on it and was shocked to see it got very poor for the driver frontal crash test from the nhtsa. I also saw it had two driver side airbag related recalls.

Now my question is, did the 03 deville score badly because of a few airbag parts that needed to be recalled? And if it did, would it be safe if the faulty parts were replaced?

I can't get the nhtsa page to come up through a link so
here's a link to an 03 deville on autotrader with the recall info at the bottom.
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/safetyinfo.jsp?vehicle_number=100137363&&default_sort=priceDESC&dealer_id=564928&end_year=2003&address=85345&make2=&start_year=2003&fuel=&certified=&keywordsrep=&car_id=218152219&search_type=both&max_mileage=&body_code=0&drive=&min_price=&distance=25&engine=&transmission=&make=CAD&keywordsfyc=&sort_type=priceDESC&num_records=25&car_year=2003&doors=&style_flag=1&cardist=12&max_price=&advanced=&model=DEV&color=&ref=srl#vdptop

Here's a link to the crash test results.

Thanks. :)

Nobody knows? I'd really like to get it today but I still can't find anything about how the recall would affect the safety rating of the car.

Though my opinion is probably biased, I consider Cadillac to be the MOST unreliable/untrustworthy car in GMs fleet. I don't care if it's made in 1987 or 2007. They are POSs and i just plain don't trust 'em. My uncle has owned several Cadillacs over the years and they've all fallen apart. Only good thing is they ride nice. I wouldn't trust ANY car if it had recalled airbag issues, I don't care if it is fixed. If it has bad crash results, it has bad results. Even if it is because of recall issues, it's not worth endangering your life if you have to question it AT ALL. Get like a BMW or something that does have good crash test results.:wink:

Thanks for the reply.

the reason i want a deville isn't completely about luxury for me; I would barely fit in a bmw. Also I had a 92 deville that I loved but a lifted F-350 killed it (all I had was a bruise from the seatbelt though).

Basically I need a sedan with a lot of leg/head/elbow room. I like towncars a lot too but I can't find any certified preowned ones.

Anybody else have any thoughts on the safety tests/ airbag issues?
