Water in Air pump.

I have a 96 Caprice and my car was diagnos as Water in Air pump an/or P0410, P0415, P0416, P0100, P0101, P0102. Cause: Under high engine speed and load conditions, hot exhaust gasses may leak past the air check valves. As the exhaust gasses in the air tube cool, water vapors collect into the air pump. As the vehicle is driven, condensation from the air pump may come into contact with the Mass Airflow Sensor through the air inlet hose. This condition may cause a hesitation on acceleration and may also set a DTC.
Correction: To correct this condition, A secondary air injection pump disable procedure has been developed. (It has been determined that the seccondary air injection system in not required to meet emission requiremants for these vehicles only.)

Labor Description: Reprogram PCM software $163.99 Remove and install PCM-Perform by pass sevice procedure, install new arifilter. $137.98, Parts $41.65 Total $347.81. Does this sound right to you guy? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

When the electric AIR pump on my '94 got contaminated with condensation, I solve the problem by installing a new air injection check valve and dried out the pump. IIRC, the new check valve was only about $15. That was about four years ago, and it's been fine ever since.

Operationally, it doesn't matter. However, the USEPA exemption was only valid for 1996 (OBD-II) cars.
