Well, yeah, it's one of the 9 points that Mad Max and Bernie-the-Scrudge will be putting befor the teams this year. Hope most of those suggestions don't find any support.

What pisses me off is that the fans/drivers/and most evryone else have been crying for the slicks to be brought back - but this has not been on the Max's agenda

From the sounds of things, three of the leading teams (Williams, Ferrari, McLaren) of the leading teams regard the proposals as an anathema.

Each of these teams have at one time or another been the dominant team (man, some people have short memories) in the past two decades. McLaren and Williams (and only recently in the past two or three years, Ferrari) have been the ones to beat - because they build good cars, have good people and good budgets to fund them.

If they want a parity series, then look elsewhere there are plenty around. F1 has always been @ the cutting edge and that's why it's regarded as the pinnacle of motorsport.

I'd be the first to admit the current rules have made passing a rarity and this is ruining the entertainment value. And the cars are so much faster and braking so late with such hard tyres it's a wonder that the drivers have any feel for the tubs.

The fundamental thing the rule makers need to remind themselves is that this a sport, not sports entertainment. Someone will dominate but only for a while and then in the natural order of things, someone else will knock them off.

Having said that making rules that make passing more accessible and safer would do a lot for the sport and the entertainment value. I'd prefer slicks, smaller wings and smaller engines if it would lengthen braking distances and give more time and room to pass without letting the cars go any faster.

The new rules are in my opinion, little more than a token nod at the issues that have been generated by the season just completed. The backlash against 'team orders' has been addressed with a nominal'no team orders' rule, which will be easily circumvented by pit-lane delaying tactics and other subtle measures. The wider spread of points will give the illusion of closer competition, but the reality will be that with fewer points separating each position,it will be much harder for the lesser teams to take advantage of a 'top team' having a bad day at the track.

Formula one has become a bastard child of sport and entertainment,a multi-million dollar fusion of parity rules and 'biggest investment wins'
Innovation appears to be discouraged by the deliberate dumbing-down of tyre capability, and qualifying rules and blue flag nonsense turns what used to be a race[i.e. an outright contest of speed and skill] into a tactical excercise played out by team managers from the comfort and safety of the pit lane wall.

Give me the original F1 concept any day....those who can build the fastest cars and drive them through the hazards most proficiently, win.

Wrong.

F1 used to be a sport.
Now it is the pincale of Sports Entertianment.

Once old Berni dies of old age, or moves onto something that will make him more money it might become a sport again. But untill then F1 will only ever be about putting bums on seats, in frount of TV's and selling Advertising for as much as possible.
Everything else, including any actualy motorsport that may or may not go on is secondary.
