96 slave cylinder

Just got done raplacing the clutch in a 96 ranger. Got it all back together and the clutch pedle is hard as a rock. Look inside and I see that the slave is extended against the pressure plate We bled it out but it will not retract. I can move it back quite easily with a screwdriver. Any ideas? We're stumped.
