Changing struts on 98 LeSabre

I've only changed struts once before, on a '95 Nissan Quest, and it was fairly painless -- the only special tool needed was a spring compressor.
Looking for advice on changing struts on my '98 LeSabre. I don't know for certain that they're shot, but I have 102,000 miles on it, and the stereotypically mushy LeSabre front-end ride has gotten awfully mushy. Didn't realize it until I drove a '97 that had relatively new struts -- what a difference! So I figure at 102,000 miles, my LeSabre is due.
Two questions:
Is changing front struts on a '98 LeSabre a reasonable DIY job?
One shop I called for an estimate on doing the job ($500 minimum, including alignment) tried hard to sell me new springs, too (a "kit" including springs and struts). Should springs need replacement at 102k interstate miles?
tia for any advice!

Welcome to AF. Only a standing height measurement compared to factory specs will determine if the springs are bad. The struts are the usual job, stong springs here though, so you need a good strut spring tool. autozone.com/repairinfo has pretty good details.
