Dome light and light around key ignition

i'm over from the lincoln and jeep forum but i also have a 96 dodge dakota sport 5-speed 2wd. i've owned the truck for a little over a year now and there is one problem i could never figure out with it. when you open either door, the dome light does not come on and the light around the ignition key hole does not light up either. i've changed bulbs, checked wiring, and i can't seem to find the problem. can anyone help me out here? thanks
