Was thinking of making a change...

I drive ~150 miles for work every day. Gas is costing me ~$600 a month. I am construction superintendent, and I have to have a truck. I was considering trading my silverado for a CC Colorado, however, the CC Colorado with the I5 only gets about 1 MPG better on the highway than my Silverado does.

Oh well, shit.

As I was reading your post I was thinking, that that 3.5L I-5 gets only a touch better gas mileage than the V-8. But you already said it. Im a contractor and am spending nearly 225/week on gas.... I feel your pain. But need the truck

have you considered a diesel?

Problem with the diesel, is the added cost of getting a diesel, the fact that diesel is nearly 45 cents a gallon more than unleaded, and I have way to much invested in my pickup.

Yeah, diesel fuel costs more, but a Silverado with a Duramax is really WAY too expensive to be a cost effective alternative to a gas truck, if you don't need the extra weight and towing capacities

I really hate to say it but have you looked at the Toyota Tacoma's. They are rated at 28mpg highway, V6 engine putting out 236 hp and 266 ft.lbs of torque. Also built in the USA. I'm somewhat of a fan of full size GM trucks but when it comes to the smaller models the Tacoma is a more solid truck than the Colorado or Canyon. You can tell when you park them side by side and test drive the two. The GM's look just plain cheap and tinny.

Yeah... no. I couldn't live with myself (or my wife) if i bought a Toy. Never owned one, never will. I need a real truck.

Oh, and the comparable Tacoma is only rated at 22MPG. The Colorado is 21 or 22, I don't remember. Looks, I guess, are subjective; i think the Toys look like crap.

I was looking at the CC models.

um Im just asking but i thought construction superintendants had a company truck they drove which would mean you wouldnt be paying for gas? Just wondering because thats just what I have always seen.

Or you could go over to the dark side and get a *gasp* Ford. I drive a Ranger with a I4 and manual transmission. I get about 23/24 mgp in the city. I've heard that it gets 30 mpg on the highway.

Stan

Some companies give you a truck, others give you an allowance.

Not sure how Blender's company works, but that's how my friend's is. He is a Super too.

I'm still waiting on someone to suggest a Ridgeline  I can't believe people argue that's actually a truck.

I get an allowance. The allowance was actually working out right, too, until gas went up a dollar a gallon. Now I'm coming out on the short end of the stick.

Too small. I must have a functional back seat for my boy. I agree, though, one of my subs has an S-10 with an i4 and 5 speed, and he gets pretty good gas mileage.

I guess 22mpg in US gallons equals 28 mpg in Imperial Gallons up here in Canada. Your US gallon is 3.8 litres compared to an Imperial Gallon at 4.54 litres. Anyway it sure hurts when we are paying a little over $4.86 per US gallon up here and predictions of $6.80 per US gallon this summer. It's getting harder and harder to justify driving anything with more than 4 cylinders these days with those prices. Right now it costs me $116 to fill my tank....ouch!

I woulda thought 5 wouldn't have made that much difference over 4. Guess I was wrong.
