I have a 2003 Expedition. This past weekend the Air Bag Warning light began flashing the code 4 and 2. I read the post regarding disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and I disconnected it for about 15 and it didn't correct the problem. I then checked the Impact Severity Sensor (after disconnecting the battery - just to be safe), and it appears that the pins for the sensor have become corroded and broken off inside the connector. The sensor costs about $70.00 Canadian, and it doesn't look hard to replace. The Ford Dealership wants about $200.00 just to diagnose the problem ("to be sure"). Is replacing the sensor something that I should attempt (I do the majority of my own car repairs), or should I leave this for the dealership?

Thanks.

You should be able to replace it yourself. I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes before you start to work on it. Just be sure to clean the mounting surfaces realluy good.

The sensor is located at the base of the hood latch support brace (at the bottom of the rad).
