Tach retrofit

hey guys. Does anyone know if I can retrofit a tach into my CX? My model didn't come with anything, including a tach. I dont want to add one of those monster tachs, I would just like to put in the instrument panel of a higher trim. Is this even possible? I was told that if my car didn't come with a tach, I'm screwed. Bad 411? Does anyone know what
I will need? Thanks.

While I'm here, real quick. I'm trying to find out if these mirrors will fit on the hatch. I've seen them on the coupe and I want them. What year
and trim are they from. Thanks again.

lol, in my world anything fits on anything, just as long as ur willing to put the time into doing it, in ur world, yes those mirrors fit, that tach, go to a junkyard and get the gauge cluster out of an ex/si but u have to run a wire to the ecu or to ur speed cable under the hood, You can find the correct ecu pin out through a chiltons manual... good luck

The higher trim level cluster SHOULD work, but ive never tried it so i dont know for a fact. As for the mirrors i dont think so, the A pillar is different i believe...

I had a similar idea about the tach. You can change them out with one from a higher trim, but you may have to change the entire dash wiring harness as well or some things like the fuel gauge wont work, and some of the lights will act funny ( C/C lights up as the shift light.) It's a bit of a hassle but if you find a new cluster in a junk yard, take the harness from the fuse box as well.

I know that on 4th gen civics all the dash panels of the same year were interchangeable with no rewiring. Honda did this so they wouldnt have to make many different wiring harness for each dash. Im thinking that the wires will be the same on different trim levels of the same year and should just "plug and play", but dont quote me on that:smoka:

well my friend has a 92 civic sedan dx, and he swapped in ex,si gauges. well i should say the previous owner did and i dont think he rewired anything because the guy he bought the car form is our friend so he probably would have mentioned how he had to rewirie it if he had too.

That may be true. I'm just stating what I had to do on my 92 CX. I plugged in the new cluster and the gas gauge always read full, and the C/C light lite up as a shift light. The old cluster had a yellow and a white socket in the back, the new one has a green and a yellow socket. I changed the harness to one that had the same color plugs, and now everything works the way it's supposed too.
