o.k. my girlfriend has a 2003 cavalier that needs a fuel pump, i understand it's in the gas tank and it has to come out but my question is the strap on the left side is riveted to a heat shield which is riveted to the body, is there an easier way to get the tank out other than drilling the rivets out.

I'd say it's best to do some more searching on it.
There's bolts holding those straps to the sub-frame somewhere.
No way or need to cut the straps.

Whow whow whow! use acetylene torch to cut GAS TANK straps? lol first off, you would prolly want to un-bolt the straps so you can use them to mount the fuel tank back up.
And second, i'm a pretty big redneck myself and even I know not to cut the straps on my demo cars...you never know if theres a fuel leak or a hole in the tank...so just to be on the safe side, I use a saws-all :grinyes: AKA a recripricating saw (hope I spelt that right!)
Anyways, you prolly got-r-did by now, but just a heads up for all you heat bags out there, never use torches around a gas tank, i've seen some close calls, and the outcomes not pretty.
