steering wheel rubber repair

my 95's steering wheel has a lot of wear on it and i would like to prevent chunks of the rubber from breaking out of it. the surface has become rough since the years of use have worn off the smooth outer layer surface. any ideas on how to reseal this before it starts getting too rugged? also, if there is a better place to post because i could not find it. thanks.
