My friend has an automatic and he shifts from 1st , to 2nd , to 3rd, and 4th with the shift nob. How bad is this for your transmission!?

that'll wear it down a lot faster than driving it like you're supposed to

i would highly recommend NOT doing that.

first off, you have to switch just right for the car to switch gears. that's how D3 and D4 work. 1 and 2 are not supposed to be used when going fast or driving hard. 1 is used for heavy traffic (i think, i dont know i have a 97) and 2 is for ice/snow/wet roads.

tell your friend (or maybe yourself) that's NOT GOOD.

one day, this 'friend' will be driving down the road, and try to be cool and shift. then his transmission will fall out from under the car

i did this for yrs. in my girls integra we got rid of it about a yr ago for the accord. i don't know how you treat ur ride, but for the record i beat the SHIT out of it for the last 20k before we traded it in w/160k and the car had zero transmission problems...

Yeah...torque converters and transmissions in automatics arent too great for doing the manual thing

Why?

Just go buy a manual car. Shifting like that is bad for the tranny and it's slower than letting the car shift for you.
