Motor Mounts. Pontiac vs. Olds

So I've got a 1970 Pontiac Lemans. It looks good and sounds good, but as for performance, it really doesn't impress. It's got the factory 350 with a few minor mods(intake, carb, ignition, etc). I've come across a Rocket 350 out of a 69 Cutlass. It ran strong before it was removed from a totaled car.
From the research I've done, trying to get power out of a Pontiac 350 is a waste of energy and money. I'd like to put the Rocket into my LeMans.
Im concerned about the motor mounts, though. The Rocket engine is out a 69 Olds and is going into a 70 Pontiac which obviously will have 2 different types of mounts.

I've done quite a bit of internet research on these mounts, and now realize how much GM changed and redesigned them from year to year and make to make.

Before I dig any deeper into this, I want to be more sure that there will be a way to get this engine mounted without major mods to my frame. Anybody ever try to pop an Olds motor into a Pontiac? Any motor mount experts out there?

Thanks!

The Olds uses different mounting pads on the frame. Any A-body with the Olds engine will work. Get the pads, and mounts that bolt to the block for the Cutlass.

The Olds 350 is no better than the Pontiac. The best solution for more power is a bigger Pontiac. The 400 or 455 will bolt right in. While it's true the 350 Pontiac doesn't make the power the bigger ones make, it's a good design. You will find, Pontiacs respond to performance modifications more like a Chevy, and it takes more to get the Olds to the same level.

Yes, I'm a Pontiac guy, but... I'm also a professional engine builder. I've built some pretty beastly Olds' over the years.

Thanks a ton, MrPbody!
Maybe I'll work on finding a 400 or 455 instead. Be a shame to do all this work and feel no difference.

Thanks again.

Where are you located? I can usually point you to a Pontiac guy.

I'm in the Chicago area.
I may already have a good lead on a 1970 455 :naughty:. Gotta look a little more into it this week!
